It’s getting very cold out there! We all know that we need to bring out the warmer coat or have an excuse to pick up a new pair of sexy boots, but what about our skin? Are we taking the necessary steps to protect it? A heavier coat may keep us warm but there is a lot more of us exposed to the elements so we need to focus attention on these areas. There are various types of weather that can adversely effect our skin on a daily basis. In this article, we will cover some of these conditions and explain how we can protect against the toll it can have on our skin.
It blows around us every day, but it isn’t the wind that is of concern. It’s what the wind carries that poses the threat. Whether it be snow, sand, or seawater, these particles contained in the wind can cause windburn in the skin. Covering up helps but adding an organic moisturizer for normal to oily skin or an organic moisturizer for normal to dry skin greatly improves your resilience to these elements. It adds a protective barrier and allows your skin to have a fighting chance during these colder months.
Another critical factor to keep in mind is air temperature. Since winter air is colder, it typically means that there is less moisture in the air. Therefore, this leads to flakey, dry skin and can also lead to conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. A brilliant way of contributing to a defense system that can stand up against such conditions is using lip balms, moisturizers, humidifiers, exfoliants for removing any dead skin, and collagen supplements that increase the skin’s ability to have a fighting chance.
Though the clouds block out sunlight, it doesn’t mean that your concerns are gone with regards to your skin care. If it’s raining outside, you probably won’t have to worry about getting a sunburn; however, on a cloudy day, you should still wear a protective sunscreen and protective clothing for extra protection. When you aren’t able to hole yourself up indoors and have to brave the harsh, cruel world, apply sunblock and lip balm with a sun protection factor (SPF) of, at least, 15.
